Nourishments of Ancestors

In very early ages most important need of people was food. They got it supplied by hunting animals. They hunted animals using spears, arrows & bows. People who lived near rivers practiced fishing using spears. With the invention of nets, they used nets for fishing.

The problems they faced were injuries while hunting and inability to hunt and pluck fruits in winter. Gradually they started animal farming and crop cultivation. then they stored surplus of food for difficult times. Again, they had to work hard and need more energy. Goods and Services

Every living being has needs and wants. Neither humans nor animals can live without having their needs fulfilled. We need food to eat, a place to live in and clothes to wear. We also need doctors when we are sick, teachers to provide us with education and bankers to help us in financial matters. Because the needs and wants are important, every society has ways to get them fulfilled. In economics, some of our needs and wants fall into two categories. They are goods and services.

Goods are objects or things we can use or consume. Food, clothes, furniture, books, computers and everything else we use are goods. They are either made or grown. It is the duty of the manufacturers to produce goods to match the needs of people. These goods are sold to consumers and a profit is earned by the traders.

Services are actions. A service is work that someone provides for someone else. Fields like education, transportation, health and postal services come under this category. Some services are given free while some have to be paid for.

Sri Lanka, which is a developing country, provides free education and medical facilities to all its citizens. Such facilities are not available free of charge even in some first world countries.

The Marvelous Fortress in Sri Lanka

Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town Dmbulla. It consists of an ancient citadel made by King Kashyapa during g 5th century. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the top of the rock. The upper palace includes cisterns cut into the rock. The mid-level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes. And the lower palaces, moats and ramparts have built to protect the citadel.

The mirror wall and spiral stairs leads to the frescoes. Originally the mirror wall was so highly polished as the king could see himself when he walked alongside it. It has made of brick masonry and covered in highly polished white plaster. The wall is now partially covered with 'Sigiri Graffiti' verses scribbled by visitors about the King Kashyapa and Sigiri Frescoes. There is a song about Sigiri Graffis which was sang by the famous singer Sunil Shantha.

King Kassapa has reverted his fortress to an ecological wonder by having Royal Pleasure Gardens, Water Gardens and Fountain Gardens made inside the inner city as well as at the palace premises. The Gardens of the Sigiriya city are one of the most important aspects of the site. It is among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world.
